Americans believe by large majorities that it is more important for newcomers to learn English than it is for their fellow citizens to become bilingual.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey reveals that 83% of likely voters place a higher priority on encouraging immigrants to speak English as their primary language.
Just 13% take the opposite view and say it is more important for Americans to learn other languages.

Exclusive: Immigration and Border Security: The Real ‘Inconvenient Truths’
The New York Times, which has long advocated for open borders and the legalization of millions of illegal aliens, recently published two articles that its editors should take the time to read. (Yes, that New York Times, the newspaper that, in my opinion, should change its slogan from "All the news that's fit to print," to "You'll have a fit over what we print!")
The connection between these articles may not be immediately apparent, but the common denominator will soon become clear.
The first article deals with the rapidly deteriorating conditions in Mexico. Violence is spreading throughout the nation that shares more than two thousand miles of border with our country and corruption, long a problem in Mexican government, is increasing. What contributes to these growing problems is increased drug trafficking activities, and sadly, the corruption is bought and paid for by the proceeds of the narcotics being peddled on the streets of American cities from coast to coast.
Thursday, May 1, 2008Sure to be a significant issue in the presidential campaign going forward, the question of immigration reform continues to divide otherwise like-minded religious folks. Mirror of Justice sage Michael Scaperlanda penned an article on the subject for First Things in February. A raft of letters upset with what the writers deemed Scaperlanda’s unreasonably lenient view toward illegal immigrants followed in the May issue (not accessible to non-subscribers), along with an article-length exchange between Scaperlanda and attorney William Chip. Scaperlanda’s initial article as well as part of the subsequent debate revolves around statements made by Catholic bishops on the subject.
Scaperlanda wants to see tighter borders in the sense of eliminating illegal immigration, but he also advocates a path to citizenship for currently illegal residents as well as a significant expansion of immigration quotas. Chip thinks large numbers of immigrants depress American wages and observes that most illegal migrants (specifically, Mexicans) are gainfully employed in their native country and not as desperately poor as they are sometimes portrayed.
Both Chip and Scaperlanda make valid points. The former on the possibility of enforcing the law:
The specter of mass arrests and deportations is a red herring. Approximately 500,000 aliens legally cross the border every day. They come to shop or to sightsee, to attend university, to conduct business, to work for an embassy, or to fill a temporary job. If we are to enjoy the benefits of these international visits without being overwhelmed by overstayers, it should be obvious that we cannot depend on the “hard power” of arrest and deportation except as a last resort.
The Border: A vodka maker's ad campaign in Mexico is more than a marketing faux pas that offends many Americans. There's a real movement out there that feels our Southwest is really occupied Mexico.
The first rule of marketing is know your customer base. So when the makers of Absolut vodka began an ad campaign in Mexico featuring what a map of North America might look like "In An Absolut World," it was well aware it might appeal to many Mexicans there and here.
The ad by the Swedish Absolut Spirits Co. features an 1830s era map where Mexico includes California, Texas, Arizona and other southwest states. The U.S. border lies where it was before the Mexican-American war of 1848 and before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo saw the Mexican territories of Alta California and Santa Fe de Nuevo Mexico ceded to the U.S.

Report: White House to bypass red tape, complete border fence
Border fence advocate Colin Hanna is pleased the Bush administration is willing to take a bold step to complete construction of nearly 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico, as directed by Congress
Hanna, president of WeNeedaFence.com, considers it a positive sign that federal officials say the administration intends to bypass more than 30 laws and regulations in an effort to complete 670 miles of fence along the U.S.-Mexico border by the end of the year, as mandated by the Secure Fence Act of 2006. Congress has authorized the legal waivers to cut through bureaucratic red tape and sidestep environmental laws that currently stand in the way of the Department of Homeland Security building 267 miles of fencing in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Hanna says the Bush administration made the right decision. "The whole idea [is] that when there is a serious conflict between national security interests and environmental interests ... the national security interests should trump the environmental concerns. It's a perfectly sound concept," he argues.

Mexican Military and Law Enforcement Agents Barging Over Border
Judicial Watch, the public interest group created to investigate and prosecute suspects in government corruption cases, recently released a secret a Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Border Patrol report titled, “Mexican Government Incidents: 2006 Fiscal Year Report.”
The report was obtained by JW attorneys under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Had Judicial Watch not submitted its September 2007 FOIA request, their spokesperson believes this information would not have been made public.
The report describes 29 confirmed incidents that occurred in 2006 along the U.S.-Mexican border involving Mexican military and/or law enforcement personnel, 17 of which involved armed Mexican government agents. Among the incidents cited:
As I was watching last night’s little hissy fit called a “Republican Debate,” I noted just how out of touch the two main contenders are when it comes to the issues that affect millions of Americans on a daily basis.
One has collected a government payroll check almost his entire adult life, while the other is a business/political elitist who is fairly well insulated from the policies he imposes on others. And after all that, they would have us believe they understand what we mere citizens deal with on a daily basis.
I beg to differ….

Judge upholds Arizona hiring law
Businesses employing illegal immigrants will still face closure.
By Nicholas Riccardi, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
A federal judge Thursday upheld a controversial new Arizona law that mandates the closure of businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
U.S. District Judge Neil Wake rejected the arguments of business and immigrant-rights groups, which sued saying the law was an unconstitutional usurping of the federal government's right to regulate immigration.
"The act does not make employers conform to a stricter form of conduct than federal law," Wake wrote in his 37-page decision.

Sanctuary City Advocates Hamper U.S. Law Enforcement
A citizen of Ecuador was captured by the New York City Police Department and charged with rape, criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child. He was convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years probation. The victim was a 12-year-old girl.
"ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] is committed to insuring the public safety of our communities and we will not tolerate the actions of sexual predators and those who threaten the welfare of our children," said New York ICE Acting Special Agent in Charge Salvatore Dalessandro.
"If you are preying on our children, we are going to find you; and if you are not a U.S. citizen, we will deport you. We will continue to partner with New York City Probation Department and other law enforcement agencies to this end," he warned.

The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration: Nearly One Million Sex Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants in the United States
fter conducting a 12-month in-depth study of illegal immigrants who committed sex crimes and murders for the time period of January 1999 through April 2006, it is clear that the U.S. public faces a dangerous threat from sex predators who cross the U.S. borders illegally.
There were 1,500 cases analyzed in depth. They included: serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides, and child molestation committed by illegal immigrants. Police reports, public records, interviews with police, and media accounts were all included. Offenders were located in 36 states, but it is clear that the most of the offenders were located in states with the highest numbers of illegal immigrants. California was number one, followed by Texas, Arizona, New Jersey, New York, and Florida.
Based on population numbers of 12,000,000 illegal immigrants and the fact that young males make up more of this population than the general U.S. population, sex offenders in the illegal immigrant group make up a higher percentage. When examining ICE reports and public records, it is consistent to find sex offenders comprising 2 percent of illegals apprehended. Based on this 2 percent figure, which is conservative, there are approximately 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security will tighten identification requirements to cross the border, despite opposition from Democrats in Congress, by the end of this month.
“We’re going to eliminate the vulnerabilities that we can eliminate now even with Congress delaying our initiative,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff in a phone interview with Townhall on Thursday.
Border Madness
As of January 31, DHS will end the practice of “oral declarations” and significantly narrow the list of acceptable forms of identification that can be used to enter the United States.
In case you happened to miss recent news on the subject, the U.S. Congress seems to now be officially welcoming terrorists, drug and people-smugglers into the United States of America.
The only thing that seems to be missing is the proverbial red carpet for non-citizen criminals – many of whom have vowed to destroy the U.S.A. and its citizenry – in a heretofore unprecedented manner.
Ignoring the firmly stated wishes of those U.S. citizens who elected them, members of these now less-than-august bodies have instead decided to curry favor with our country’s enemies – enemies who are currently either firmly at the gate or who have already freely entered the country.
Border Madness
Note: Treason is no longer an issue to the increasingly autocratic rulers who currently walk the halls of the D.C. Capitol building.
It also strongly appears that the U.S. Constitution is no longer applicable to them and is only a document that hinders their ignoble and sordid desires.
While telling the American people they would build a border fence to keep the country’s enemies at bay, with a wink and a nod, our congressmen entered into their own secret agreements to destroy any hope of said fence ever being built.
The previously-given funding, via the Secure Fence Act, will now be reallocated to Senators’ and Representatives’ pet projects. Even according to pro-illegals Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), $3 billion – previously passed by Congress to build a secure border fence – have now been stripped from the defense bill, apparently to be replaced by personal “pork” provisions. Greed and uncontrolled avarice have, once again, won out over both common sense and the fate of the country and its citizens.
Graham said: “I’m incredibly disappointed. Congress would serve itself well if we funded border security as my amendment proposes, and it would help us move the immigration debate further down the road.”
Immigration is a buzzword in America this political season. Actually, the proper term is criminal lawbreaking illegal immigration, one that politicians on the Left avoid like the plague, and certain politicians on the Right shudder at.
The plot is murky. Our own President seems unwilling to actively control or limit illegal immigration. He has clearly shirked his oath of office. He has gone so far as to refer to patriot volunteers along the border as vigilantes, and to permit prosecution and the imprisonment of two Border Patrol agents who shot and wounded a criminal illegal alien drug smuggler.
The criminal was rewarded with liberal free access to the U.S.A., and the law enforcement officers, Ramos and Campion, were sent to prison. Even some Democrats were dismayed by this perfidy.
The issue is very serious as it encompasses national security. Our borders are porous, and may become painfully so if they are not already. Known terrorist organizations such as al Qaeda, Hamas, and Hezbollah (and perhaps others not yet known) have established branches in northern Mexico.
They teach their members Spanish and how to blend in with illegals, and then assist those terrorists in hooking up with people smugglers to get them over the border and into the United States. There are over 40 clandestine chapters of the violent terrorist group Hamas, and at least 20 clandestine chapters of Hezbollah – along with hundreds of al Qaeda and other hate-filled terrorists in the United States now.
Many have entered via overland routes from Mexico, and more are coming. They bring drugs, money, weapons, disease, and more when they come. There are rumors that they have, or are working to develop, ways to bring nuclear weapons in over the Mexican border.

SCHIP Bill Increases Illegal Immigrants' Access to Medicaid and Undermines Welfare Reform
Under current law, illegal immigrants are eligible for emergency medical services funded through the Medicaid program but are not eligible for normal benefits through Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
In addition, according to the provisions of the 1996 welfare reform law, legal immigrants are not eligible for normal Medicaid and SCHIP benefits for the first five years they reside in the United States.
The Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007 (H.R. 3963),passed in the Senate and the House of Representatives,[1] significantly changes the law with respect to both legal and illegal immigrants. H.R. 3963 affects not only SCHIP but also the far larger general Medicaid program. Specifically, the SCHIP reauthorization bill:
weakens the evidentiary and document standards governing entry into the Medicaid program, thereby making it easier for illegal immigrants to fraudulently obtain benefits; and overturns the limitations on immigrant use of Medicaid enacted in the 1996 welfare reform law by gutting the administrative procedures used to determine immigrant eligibility, thereby readily permitting immigrants to receive benefits for which they remain legally ineligible.

Shareholder Proposal Makes Issue of Anheuser-Busch’s Support for Group Promoting Driver’s Licenses for Illegal Aliens
Falls Church, Virginia- Peter Flaherty, President of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), today announced that the group has filed a shareholder proposal for consideration by Anheuser-Busch shareholders.
The proposal asks the company to disclose its charitable contributions, and provide a rationale for each, especially for “controversial” grantees, such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF). The supporting statement notes that the company has been MALDEF’s largest corporate supporter in recent years, and states:
“MALDEF favors the issuance of driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, and sued the state of Virginia to allow illegal immigrants to attend state universities at the in-state tuition rate.”

Judicial Watch Reports Middle Easterners Smuggled Into U.S. Through Mexico
One of the ramifications of our unprotected border is the advent of smuggling of Iraqis and other Middle Easterners into the United States through the Rio Grande.
It is almost a certainty that this smuggling has been going on for more than a year.
Operating out of Chaparral new Mexico, the smugglers originally were sneaking mostly Mexicans and Central Americans into the U.S.but the Middle Easterners are apparently willing to pay much bigger bucks
A report from the FBI says the Middle Easterners were paying the smugglers $20,000.
It is very possibl, that they are roaming freely at the moment possibly planning an attack.

Fred Thompson Video On The Mexican Border and Illegal Immigration
Border Madness
The latest flap on immigration and what to do about border madness now taking place in Washington reminds me of a scene from the BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI.
The commander is insistent that all prisoners work, including officers, on a bridge to be constructed for the purpose of advancing the enemy cause.
The commander on the British side, an engineer by trade, is agreeable. His only condition, that officers not be included as laborers. The Japanese commander is livid over such insubordination from a P.O.W.
Border Madness
What follows, is a mental and physically abusive tug of war in which the Brit emerges victorious.
An American who had successfully escaped from the camp was now back in allied territory.
His exhilaration over being free is short lived. The British, plotting to send a team back to the camp in order to blow up the bridge, enlist his reluctant support.
After a grueling march through the jungle, the British team, arrives just in time to witness the completion of the bridge. The British team makes all necessary arrangements to blow it up.
Meanwhile, the British officer, obsessed with this project has lost all rational thinking in matters of defeating the enemy. The glorious accomplishment of the bridge is paramount.
In the last desperate scene, as the American is trying to make his way to set off the charge, he is shot. The British commander, having unconsciously thwarted the plan, now realizes the consequences of his actions. As he is shot, he stumbles and falls on the plunger box setting off the explosives that blow the bridge.
Dead bodies on both sides are lying everywhere. The prison camp doctor having witnessed this unbelievable carnage, utters the movies final chilling comment to sum up the futility of this catastrophe,
Madness! Madness!

This was only a movie and meant for entertainment purposes. These two words when applied to our present border, I think, are SCARY.
Put me down for old fashion, but when I see talking heads on television proposing a serious policy, in order to let people who enter this country illegally (oops, undocumented) off the hook, I know this border madness will continue.
I have no argument, trying to find a sensible solution for the people who are already here.
It is fruitless to think we could deport twelve million people. However, I don’t want to see happen again, what happened in 1986 when President Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegals. Scroll down to Ronald Reagan's Big Mistake
It was stated we would punish employers who hired them. Since then we have let in millions more.
The major reason we should be upset by this is not so much that Mexicans are trying to enter this country. If we really wanted to we could control this situation.
The real fear should be how easy it would be for a terrorist to cross the border. Do the numbers 9/11 ring a bell? Many of these poor Mexicans try to make the crossing with little or no resources.
Terrorists on the other hand are in many cases well financed and well connected. It would not be difficult for them to enter.
Should we continue this border madness until some Armagedden befalls us because we didn’t have our priorities pointed in the right direction?
If so, we may find ourselves once again, standing over some hugh bombed out crater uttering the words
